Tant Sannie's Vanilla Chai Latte

While it is still winter and the weather nippy, most of us crave the comfort of a hot drink. And every now and then, something that is a little more indulgent than tea or coffee. That is when a vanilla chai lattu00e9 with its fragrant mix of spices can be so soul-warmingly satisfying. And while you can certainly use an instant chai lattu00e9 mix as base for this hot cocktail, you can make it from scratch in no time with only a few ingredients. This way you also have complete control over the sweetness of your drink. Add a little kick of Tant Sannie se Melktert liqueur with its aromatic cinnamon and condensed milk notes, and you have the perfect winter-warmer hot drink indulgence.

Serves 4

  • 2 black tea bags
  • 3 whole cloves
  • 1 star anise
  • 2 whole cinnamon sticks
  • 4 cups boiling water
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 tablespoons honey or to taste
  • 100 ml Tant Sannie se Melktert liqueur
  • 100 ml hot milk, frothed

Using a pot over medium heat, stir together all the ingredients except the honey, liqueur and milk. Simmer for 5-10 minutes and then pour the tea from the pot through a sieve to strain it. Pour into 4 mugs and stir in honey to taste. Add the Tant Sannie liqueur, then the frothed hot milk, carefully spooning the froth onto the top of each mug to serve. Add a sprinkling of ground cinnamon on top and enjoy immediately.
