Tant' Sannie Freak shake

Now this is our idea of a homegrown freakshake – that food trend that the wildest sweet dreams are made of. It is enough to send all your healthy new year's resolutions into oblivion, but so utterly delicious, you probably won't care! The addition of South Africa's ultimate heritage liqueur, Tant Sannie se Melktert, makes this over-the-top treat an adults-only affair, but its nostalgic flavours and fun presentation are certain to make you feel like a kid again!


  • 3 scoops vanilla ice cream
  • 100 ml Tant Sannie se Melktert liqueur
  • 150 ml full cream milk
  • 50 g melted dark chocolate
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla paste
  • mini marshmallows and caramel popcorn to garnish


Melt the chocolate over a bain marie and use it to coat the inside of a tall milkshake glass or jar. Set aside. Put the ice cream in a blender and add the milk, bit by bit. Blend until thick and smooth. Add the vanilla paste and cinnamon and blend again. Pour the milkshake into the glass or jar and garnish with the mini marshmallows and caramel popcorn piled high.
